Streetcup Spain - Validating a 1vs1 Street Football Tournament Idea
β Introduction
The client wanted to organize an intense 1vs1 street football tournament in Spain (Mallorca) called "Streetcup Spain". Before fully committing resources to organizing the physical event, it was highly recommended to validate the idea and measure market interest.
The core idea behind the project was to:
- Create an engaging landing page that captures the raw, "pure street football" aesthetic.
- Allow interested players to pre-register for free to secure a spot on the waitlist.
- Measure audience interest, track conversions, and gather a database of potential participants.
From the beginning, the focus was on validation and hype creation, ensuring the brand resonated with its target audience of fearless players and bold sponsors.
β Challenge
The main challenge was to validate a real-world sports event idea with minimal upfront investment while looking exactly like a premium, established tournament.
On one side:
- The event did not exist yet, meaning there were no real photos of past tournaments or concrete dates.
- We needed to convince players to sign up for something that was only "Planned for 2026".
- Capturing user data required a frictionless yet secure process.
On the other side:
- We needed robust analytics to truly understand user behavior and conversion rates depending on the section of the page.
- The marketing mindset applied had to be aggressive and engaging, appealing to "players without fear".
- The technical foundation had to be scalable enough to handle future official paid registrations without rewriting the entire application.
β Solution
To address these challenges, we designed and developed a high-conversion landing page structured primarily as a marketing funnel.
The solution is built around three core components:
π¨ Immersive "Puro Street" Design
We built a visually striking interface using Next.js and Tailwind CSS.
- Implemented a dark theme (
bg-brand-black) with high-contrast neon accents (brand-pink). - Used glitch text animations and scroll-triggered fade-ins to create a dynamic, premium feel.
- Structured the narrative in three psychological phases: Survival (Pre-registration), Elite (Wait for orders), and Prize (Official registration).
π Seamless Funnel and Pre-Registration
The conversion funnel was optimized for absolute simplicity using React Hook Form and Zod for validation.
- Users can join the waitlist by providing their Name, Email, and optional Instagram handle.
- The data is securely stored in a Supabase PostgreSQL database (
preinscriptionstable). - Internal testing emails are automatically filtered out from analytics to maintain data integrity.
π§ Automated Communications and Tracking
To maintain engagement and rigorously track success metrics, we integrated external marketing and analytics tools.
- PostHog was implemented to track the full conversion funnel. We capture critical events like
$pageview,cta_preinscription_clicked,preinscription_submitted, andshare_button_clicked. This allows us to measure form churn rate, overall conversion rate, and virality (K-Factor) accurately. - Resend automatically sends a stylized welcome email to users confirming their "Absolute Priority" spot on the waitlist, leveraging the aggressive, exclusive tone of the brand.
- n8n Automation powers the contact form (
contact_form_submitted), routing inquiries directly to both our email and a dedicated Telegram channel, enabling quick follow-ups.
β Business Results
This project successfully transformed an abstract idea into a measurable digital asset capable of validating the tournament's viability.
Results for the Organizers
The organizers now have a concrete system to gauge interest before investing in physical infrastructure.
- Data-Driven Validation: PostHog analytics structure allows tracking our defined KPIs, including a target Signup Conversion Rate of β₯ 12%, a Form Completion Rate of β₯ 60%, and organic growth via the share button (target β₯ 15% K-Factor).
- Automated Lead Generation: Supabase seamlessly captures participant information, building a ready-to-launch email list.
- Scalable Foundation: The Next.js and Supabase architecture is already prepared to handle official registrations and Stripe payments (
checkout.sessions) once the event is confirmed.
Results for the End Users
Players experience an exciting, frictionless onboarding process.
- Instant Confirmation: Automated emails via Resend assure players that their spot is secured immediately upon signup.
- Premium Experience: The high-quality design and animations build trust and hype for the 2026 event.
- Easy Sharing: Built-in native Web Share API integration encourages players to invite friends directly from the success page, generating organic reach.
