Validating a physical sports event like Streetcup Spain requires more than just launching a landing page. It demands a structured approach to measure user interest reliably.

This document defines the core metrics (KPIs), the behavioral events, and the tracking strategy implemented for the Streetcup Spain pre-registration phase. Our goal is to ensure we collect actionable data that proves the market viability of this 1vs1 street football tournament before committing significant capital.

The core challenge was to define how precisely we measure the "success" of an unproven idea, transforming subjective excitement into objective validation data.

On one side:

  • We needed to identify which specific user actions indicate true intent to participate.
  • Tracking purely vanilla pageviews wouldn't tell us if our registration form is too complicated or if our call-to-actions (CTAs) are effective.

On the other side:

  • PostHog needed to be correctly implemented so that internal traffic wouldn't contaminate our data.
  • We needed established benchmarks to know if our conversion rates are actually viable or if we're failing to attract our target audience.

We designed a tracking framework to capture every critical step of the pre-registration funnel, evaluating everything from initial acquisition to organic virality.

We deployed custom events in PostHog to follow the user journey precisely:

  • $pageview serves as the top-of-funnel baseline.
  • cta_preinscription_clicked measures when a user shows initial interest.
  • preinscription_submitted acts as our primary success metric (Key Event).
  • contact_form_submitted captures other inquiries.

Instead of just tracking who signs up, we specifically track the gap between intent and completion:

  • Analyze user drop-off: By comparing cta_preinscription_clicked vs. preinscription_submitted.
  • Monitor Form Completion Rate: Spotting immediately if the registration process is causing friction.

We introduced a share_button_clicked event that triggers when a user shares the event after registering:

  • Measure organic growth potential: Allows us to calculate the actual K-Factor.
  • Quantify brand hype: Proves the tournament is successfully generating excitement organically among players.
